Fuerteventura

One of three small Islands just off the North coast of Lanzarote, you get a wonderful view of La Graciosa from the amazing Mirador del Rio. You can do a day trip by catching the early ferry from Orzola which leaves at 10:00am and takes about 30 minutes to get around the corner to the fishing town of Caleta del Sebo. None of the roads are paved, and there is a great business for 4x4 trucks to take tourists to the beaches all around the tiny island. The last ferry leaves La Graciosa at 4pm.

If you want to stay overnight, there are (very) limited hotels available, but it is best to have a reservation. Our favorite is 'Pension Girasol' (928.842.118), where if you request either room 1, 2, or 3, you will find a spectacular view of the cliffs of Famara and the harbour. For just €10.00 per person per night, you get a very basic room, with showers and bathrooms down the hall. The place is very clean, and Eva (the manager) is wonderful. If you don't want to spend that much :), you can always camp on the beach and rough it.

Some great restaurants, but not a place for a wild weekend away. Hiking, relaxing, reading a good book, or generally unwinding is the order of the day.
